Shooting docks and fishing blow downs are good in the summer. Learn to use artificial lures and you will not have to keep minnows alive. I like Bobby Garland Baby Shad lures, 1-32 oz jig, with a #2 hook, using 4# Mr. Crappie Hi Vis line. Watch your line like you would a float. Any twitch or movement of your line...try setting the hook. Just might be a Crappie on your line.
Learn to recognize/determine how deep the fish are. They will probably be at that depth on that day all over the lake.
A 1-32 oz jig will fall at a rate of about 1 foot in one second. Count down and enjoy fishing.
Hope this helps some. Time on the water is the best teacher.
