Thread: Question on water temps

I fish a deep lake Douglas just wondering how cold does the water get say at 20 ft if surface water temp is freezing. I had one of those water temp gauges u could drop down 30 ft a long time ago lost it.

I believe that water from below the dam thru the generators would be a fair indicator. For instance, Jan. 31 at 7 miles below Watts Bar we measured 38.5*F. surface. Another report from Feb. 4 at 40 miles down stream was water temp of 40.5*. Not much difference. It may not be perfect but if you have no deep thermometer, water close to the dam released thru generators may give us a small insight into deep water temp.
