    Those are not Shellcrackers, those are Fliers. Most wont know what kind of fish that is. They love grassy areas, and warm shallow lakes. I’ve only caught them in Santee, but know the can be caught in Florida and Louisiana as well. They look like a cross between a bream and crappie, and are very good to eat. The flesh is sweet and fishy, a good combo.

    My friend's pond thàt I posted earlier has a good population of Fliers. My first trip there I caught several of them. I asked if he stocked them and he said they were natural in the steam that feeds his pond. He stocked Bluegills, which are really nice size now, but that trip was the first time I caught decent size Fliers. The few I have caught elsewhere were small.
