You have hit the big time on good info here. These folks dont mind sharing and showing. All the rods mentioned are great. Depends on your wallet what you want. If you get tired of Greenwood come on over to Wylie and meet some of the real weirdo people on this board. Welcome Aboard and waitin on the reports . And dont forget the pictures. !

I've been watching some of Mr. Duke's (Southern Crappie Rods) you tube videos and in most he's using spinning reels but there's one where he uses and talks about fly fishing reels. He explained that they help control line twist. Y'all's thoughts?

Ed loves those fly reels on his tightlining poles. I like using those same reels on my rear reel seat jig poles too but prefer spinning reels for tightlining. The biggest reasons I prefer the spinning reel is for the drag when fighting a big fish and the convenience of fishing for deep fish. It's inevitable that you'll hook into a striper or catfish and the drag on a spinning reel is much better than a fly reel. And certain times of the year you'll find fish deep. If you aren't fishing any deeper than your pole length it doesn't matter, but when you start getting down deeper it's nice to be able to easily wind a fish in.

With so little line out when spider riggin I have never had trouble with line twist. Normally on greenwood you are only fishing 12 to 14 ft deep. Cheap bass reels are also good for spider riggin. The spinning reels in the $20.00 range do fine for crappie and what ever else you hook. On your pulling rods you cannot cast a 1/16 oz jig with a bass reel on a 14 ft rod.

X2 on Mark. He makes a very reasonable rod holder too. He also carries Southern Crappie rods, though if you just testing the water, the Pinnacle Limits at $15 or hard to beat.
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men

After exhaustive research,I've decided to go with Southern Crappie Rods but I'm still researching rod holders. I'm liking Spyderlok, how do Mark's holders compare?

I personally use hitek and Cumberland crappie holders on my boats. They all are good it just depends on which ones you like. Millennium make one of the best holders on the market but at around $160.00 for a set of four they are quite pricey compared to the rest. Buy the ones that you like because they all do the job they are designed for. Pm sent

Those spiderloks are very nice holders!! The tight locks are good as well. It's about the same as rods, you can spend as much as you want. Marks are on the bottom end of the price range but they are very good too.

I have Mark's holders on my boat and love them. For the money, you can't beat them. The holders don't have the adjustment options in the way of set screws and such. Instead, you just bend the holder to your liking. Mark used to sell his holders for $10 a piece...so if you wanted a t-bar with 4 holders and a base plate that would be $60 for 6 pieces. I think that's still an accurate price. I've never had a holder break and they work perfect for tightlining or longlining.
