Default Rain Amount In Your Area

I thought for the ones of us that have put out rain gauges it would be kind of neat to see who's getting what. Just when ever you can get a chance to read your gauge and just let us know along with the time you checked. Hey what else is their to do, it's going to rain the next 2 days! No fishing!

I'm over in Springdale by the Columbia Airport checked my gauge at 12:32am which measured 0.85"

Yesterday about 6 PM, I had .6" in rain gauge which I dumped. This morning at 8 AM, an additional 2" was showing. I am about 25 miles west of Lake Wylie. It's going to take a lot more to fill up the lake.

Memories of an old man sitting on the couch with nothing to do but watch it rain. I lived in Clover and worked at the Westinghouse/Siemens turbine plant for 42 years. I sat at work one day with my calculator and figured that I had crossed the Buster Boyd bridge over 34,000 times. Wylie is almost like a mountain lake. There is a tremendous amount of runoff that pours into the lake. About a mile up hwy 49, heading north, after crossing the bridge, there used to be a stone marker that said that this is the highest point in Mecklenburg county. The stone was placed there in 1946, being the geek that I am, I get out of my truck some times and read these old signs when I see them. The stone was removed when they four laned the road several years ago. I used to cross the bridge at 5 and notice the low water levels. We would have a two hour thunder storm that night and the next morning, the rock wall on the right you see when you cross Crowders Creek would be under water. The point of my ramblings is that once the ground is wet, it does not take a whole lot of rain to fill Lake Wylie. I have also found out that the real highest point, by a couple of feet, is on the other side of the airport. I guess that in 1946 the measuring was not that accurate.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!!!!!

My gauge is when the frogs ask for life jackets in the back yard. I told Remus they were working on the dam for a while this morning and will run all the water down river to keep it where they want it. We'll see how much we get when it stops raining. I hope all the creeks and run offs turn our way for a change without the sewage from Charlotte. It will good to get some water back in the lakes.
