    Default Secession Event

Guys I want to thank all of you for making this another great South Carolina CDC event. What a beautiful day we had on the lake. Congrats to everyone on their catches and congrats to the three top weights teams.
First place went to Burdawg & Bringingblood , second place - Ofishlbizzness & Stevie and to Stevie for big crappie, third place - Bigtime & his Grandson Jay.

Thanks to all that gave the donations, without all the help that our members give these events couldn't happen. Thanks to Slab for the care package of decals and baits.

I will get some pics loaded tomorrow after I load them to my computer.

Had a great time with all of you and look forward to the next one,
    Ronnie

    Default Secession or bust

I made my first trip ever to Lake Secession this weekend. The prospect of driving 100 miles through all the back roads at 4 in the morning did not appeal to me so I got one of my local buds, Mickey, to come up with me on Friday. We got up in time to fish a while on Friday afternoon and then spent the night in Anderson.
Iva is a neat little town and I could have spent a couple of hours in the Sportsman One Stop but we had fish to catch so we only stayed long enough to get minnows.
Fishing was slow Friday afternoon until near the end when I decided to throw a Rooty Tooty out and reel in real slow.

This fellow swallowed it time I turned the handle. He was the best fish of the afternoon to that point. Then I made a fatal mistake.

I caught this fellow next on a minnow. He weighed 1lb 15oz. and measured 15". The one before him was about 12 inches.

The fatal mistake was I caught them on the wrong day. Our best 5 fish Saturday barely weighed what these two weighed.

Here were the two from Friday.
Saturday was such a pretty day I think it broke our concentration.

At least it looked to me that Mickey's concentration was a bit off. Probably has something to do with getting up at 4:30 AM!
We had a great time, met some old friends and a couple of new ones as well. John got Mickey all fired up about a Perch Jerk at Wylie so I will have to bring him to Wylie pretty soon.
Thanks to Ronnie and Jimmy for hosting a great outing and all the work they put into making it a success. By the way, I fished a couple of Ronnie's new Crappie rigs and the work slick as a whistle. Only down side was the first fish I caught on one of his rigs was a green carp that hit my middle rod and played ring around the rigs before I got him in. On the bright side, these rigs are easy to untangle.(trust me on that one)

PS to Longliner(Mark) I did not recognize you in the new boat Friday. It is a slick looking rig but I did not realize it was you until y'all had gone up to the store so pardon me for not speaking.

Ronnie has the pictures of the winners but I meant to post one of him and his proud Grandson with the T-shirt he won. Thanks to Slab for this and other prizes we gave out.

Great pic Ray, thanks for sharing them.

The fishing on Secession really got hard on Friday as 5 boats of our member pre-fished trying to locate the crappie. With the upstate receiving three inches of rain in the week and the lake being pulled down for the winter the crappie were scattered so a lot of water had to be covered. The size of the average crappie really dropped with 1 pound crappie being the size of the biggest fish caught in most creels. Still everyone caught fish covering a lot of water.

We had 11 teams fish the tournament, ( 10 boat teams and one kayak team ). As you will see, if you could get a good kicker fish you had a great chance to pull out the win. Here are the results, all teams had the 5 fish weigh-in.

    1 st - Burdawg & Bringingblood = 5.6 pounds
    2 st - Ofishlbizzness & Stevie = 4.14 pounds - Stevie with the big fish = 1.5 pound
    3th - Bigtime & Jay = 4.5 pounds
    4th - Kurt & Jarett = 4.4 pounds
    5th - Goodoleboyz & Jessica = 4.3 pounds
    6th - SeaRay & Mickey = 3.13 poundss
    7th - Stump Hunter & Brandon = 3.11 pounds
    8th - Josh - 3.2 pounds

Are few pics from the two days, for got to take a group picture but we had 21 people at the event. Thanks everyone!

Congrats on a great event! I couldn't make this one. How were most catching fish, minners over brush, or pulling jigs?

Most teams were spider rigging minnows trolling around. I fished a few brush piles but didn't find fish holding on any in numbers. I know Bigtime was pulling jigs but didn't see any others pulling jigs. I seen a lot of fish on the DF but getting them to bite was another story.
