Hey all,
I am new here and kinda new to fishing. It has been awhile. I am taking my sons down to Allison Creek Docks this Saturday and was wondering if anyone wanted to share bait types or any other info we could use on our little trip? We will be going out early AM. I just want to see the boys pull a couple of fish out of the water and they will be thrown back in. Any help is appreciated.

First off welcome aboard.
It is hard to beat live bait and a float, especially where kids are involved. If you are after crappie I would go with minnows and a slip cork. There are a ton of White Perch in the lake and they love minnows. They tend to hug the bottom so I would try fishing deeper for them. However, a friend of mine was fishing for Stripers on Murray last Friday and got into a school of them feeding on top just like Stripers. They are first cousin to a Striper so I guess it stands to reason, but all we have caught have been under bait fish near the bottom.
Kids would have a blast if they got into the WP and you would be out of minnows in the blink of an eye.
Hope you have good luck and post a picture or two of your trip/

There is some pretty deep water between the pier and launch ramp. Cut up a perch and chunk it out there and hang on.
Thanks for all the responses. I grew up fishing small lakes and reservoirs outside of Boston and I never took advantage of all the fishing and outdoor activities when I moved South. I just turned 40 and thought to myself I really want to go fishing again. I want to try to catch that passion I had when I was a kid and pass that on to my kids. I will take some picks and report back on this topic with how it went.
We caught a few perch and learned a little from a gentleman that was fishing for crappie. We will head out again for sure.
