    Cool Spawn on Wylie!

I knew the title would get your attention. With that being said, I have a feeling (call it a sixth sense) that fish will be in shallow water very soon. I am actually losing sleep thinking about it. The dogwoods are open and are a few days away from turning from green to white. I know the cold winter has thrown everyone off, but honestly I am to the point where I have to get my fix for a thump on my rod.

If you guys could PLEASE give some details about Wylie. Of course not your favorite fishing hole, unless you want, but more or less WATER TEMPS, fish patterns and DEPTHS, and of course any other insightful info. I know those crappie will be in shallower water around docks and brush soon and I am more than ready to catch my limit.

I have high hopes for this year, with my main goal being to catch more crappie than I did last year. I would also like to join the three lb club, and have invested in a really nice scale to show off my catches.

Also, if you see a tall, ugly guy with glasses jigging from the dock you are putting your boat in, strike up a conversation and invite him out to fish with you!

Better get that "fix" quick because with those temps going into the 80's next week it's gonna make some of them water lice break out. I'm looking SHALLOW mid week next week.

    Thanks guys.

I got up early and snuck out this morning. Wind was blowing too hard and my hands were too cold to have any fun. I did catch one small bass, but no crappie yet. It will be time very soon though.

Man, I hope you get into them hard and heavy. You sound like me 50 years ago! Give it time, it will be on before you know it. If you plan on fishing the pier at Allison creek you better get on out there and hold your spot. I mean camp out on the pier. LOL. You will not be alone I promise you. Do be afraid to walk the bank from the pier up to the power lines toward the Hwy 274 bridge there have been many caught wading along there. If you decide to walk the bank try a cork with your favorite jig a few feet under it and cast out jigging it slowly back to the bank. Good luck!

    BigDawgg,

I hope so too. I am ready to fill a stringer full of slabs. I actually don't mind camping out on the pier, but I usually come and go later than most people so it's not too bad. I'll put my canoe in and paddle out in front of the dock and show everyone on the pier how it's done. I haven't thought about wading around where the power line is, but I might give it a try. I use to wade all over the Catawba River, but I have been converted into more of a lake guy chasing these crappie. Good luck to you as well.

    Wylie slabs are stupid.
They won't touch my finest jigs.

They should be shallow now. The spawn is not a one fits all affair, there are several spawns that run back to back. At least that's what I've experienced here in Virginia?
