    Default night stalking and generators

I was going to get around to posting about using a generator during a night stalk. I am glad trumpdriver mention it on another tread and now this has my full attention. I do a lot of dry dock camping/fishing where there is no electricity. Cheaper camping fees, and less regulations. I already have a small generator used for charging batteries and would like to start using during a night stalk. One of my intentions is to fire up the generator before the end of the nite stalk to put some of power back in the batteries. What do you think? Has anybody else tried this?

It sounds like a good idea, but it would have to be super quiet. One of the reasons I go to the lake is to get away from everyone and everything. I enjoy how quiet it is, and being able to listen to all the sounds the night and the lake have to offer.

My neighbor use to take one night fishing, and he loved it.

    Man these things are expensive.
    Honda EU1000 $699 to $1000 +

You could buy years worth of batteries for this amout of money, a new color GPS/Fish finder unit, or 25 Ugly Sticks.

I copied and pasted this from another thread.

I use a generator on my pontoon. It is on the back I then hook a convertor next to the generator. From the convertor which is 12 VDC I run all my lights.

This way all the 115 VAC is only right next to the generator and only 12 VDC running throughout the boat. To me it is a lot safer this way.

As to the noise it not very loud as Anchorpuller says.

ease of lighting, cooking and hot coffee on the boat makes it awfully tempting to invest in a generator but i dont have a toon and so nowhere i can put one on the boat that its not gonna be a nuisance to someone since my boat is usually manned from front to back with 3-5 folks.

That one I was showing in the other thread is not much larger than a battery. It's like a overnight case sized thing. I used to sit it under my bench seat in the jon and use the exhaust to warm my feet in the cold. :D

Tell Rango that thing will distill spirits, and he will buy one for each end of the Beast.:D

A friend of mine has rigged up a lighting set that runs off a generator but it takes up a lot of room. The generator is small but the lights are long and there are a lot of wires and outlet boxes involved.

ive give up my back seat on the beast for nightstalking and moved to the center of the boat. travis said he could man that end of the boat with no problem so i let him have it. hes an adventerous young man and likes a challenge. . so a generator anywhere on the boat, unless its super quiet is gonna interfere with my meditation and medicating.... now if i had a toon, id have one in a heartbeat and be working on a way to soundproff it. ive been close to boats thats running generators and the noise is worse than the strong smells coming from the crew. a man can only take so much

Rango I think those people with a loud generator had the wrong kind of generator. I have a Honda 1000 and it is super quite.
As to the wiring even with batteries you have to run some wire. It's just how much time and effort you want to put in the project.
Rango I would also recommend that if you know someone that has a Honda generator to listen to it and see how noisy it is un I meant to say hear how noisy it is.

You mean a generator will distill spirits?!??!:D
Dang.. now y'all are starting to remind me of Hawkeye Pierce and BJ Honeycutt.

Not everyone likes a generator. Rango has his setup the way he likes it, as do many other folks.

I do the battery thing myself, but only cuz I haven't convinced all the folks in my family that I DO NOT like Hummels and crap like that for Christmas and Birthdays!

If it has no purpose and collects dust, I don't want it. But, if the family gives it to me out of love, I'm gonna fake it like I did with that Cemetary (he had no clue) arrangement I got for my anniversery one year :D

ooh... this sounds like the start of a new thread!

    Happy Nightstalkin' Yall!
