I'm sure you already do this but if you don't I use a Phillips screwdriver with a 24in shaft and oversized handle for finding where sounds are coming from. I agree with you, no spun bearing. Best news. Anyway I put the handle to my ear and the #2 Phillips point directly on or as close to bearings under the hood. The 24in shaft reaches down deep in a engine bay when that's needed.
