I fished a few days last week and noticed my style of fishing Im really not sure if I will benefit much using a mega unit. I used my SI and map screen some , but I was usually looking for cover then switched to 2d b4 I decided to fish. My question is are the helix gen 1 unit chirp sonar. I got a chance to look at a helix 10 non mega. And a helix 12 mega , but couldnt tell if the 10 was chirp or not. Do helix 10s come gen 2 non mega. Im getting confused

The ONLY G1 Helix units that are Chirp is the H12 series, and even then ONLY the 2D is Chirp - where all three bands (2D,SI/DI) can be chirped and adjustable.

LOOK at the specs on HB's website to clarify.......

Put it below the trolling motor and works just awesome. I use Rickie’s da ducer and find transducer just has to be a inch below trolling motor or you pick up just a dash of pic quality on left side as I view the screen. So attached to the bottom of the motor like all other transducers it will work just fine.

Thank you cevans. I fish a lot of shallow gnarly water for bass so the less hanging of my boat the better. I do like the concept an look of the da ducer though...

I have a Helix mega, and if i were you i would save up just a little longer and pay the extra 300. Kinda like buying a new vehicle for 300 more would you get automatic windows vrs hand cranks?

I'm just about ready to step up to a new unit . Can someone that owns or used a helix mega tell me what makes it worth the $300 + over the non mega units. Will the difference in the units really make a recreational fisherman like me find more fish and structure. Give me the advantages and disadvantages. Thanks in advance.

If you dont want to spend the extra money, or cant afford to, then dont.
The Mega images are really nice in shallower water, but if $300 is a lot of money for you then theyre not revolutionary. More like evolutionary.
Do you have to see the most detailed shallow water images, or can you get by with decent images? What kind of fishing will you do most?

IMO I would save up the extra money for the Mega. I have both a mega and a nonmegahelix 10 si. I think all units now are miles ahead of where they were a few years ago. Mega unit images in both si and di are way ahead at this point of any images I've seen from any other units.
