anyone seen this before ? The right side show this band of color all the time with the trolling motor out or in the water it blocks out any detail on the right side, I have another 898 I have hooked up to the same plug in on same boat and it shows a black screen on left and right side,, this make me think something is not right any ideas ?

If both sides of the transducer can see side to side clearly then I believe you have a bad transducer that is defective.

That's kind of what I was thinking on the transducer , but when I connected the other 898 unit I have to the same transducer it shows a black screen on both sides of the si when I lift the trolling motor out of the water ,,but the 898 I am having trouble with shows the color band like the photobucket link in my original post

Is the 898 still under warranty? You'd get 2 years with HB select.

If one unit does it and one unit doesn't .....connected to the same transducer.....It is a problem with the 898.

From the menu screens, reset to defaults, and see if that clears it up. Have a friend that went through problems like that. I think it turned out to be interference from the boat wiring.

The background behind the unit looks like "land"...(and the cover is on the boat)..

You are in the water correct...??

Sonar does not work thru air...

When is the last time you updated to a new software? If this started after a update, try to download an old update and see if that corrects the problem, or see if there is a new update on Humminbirds website for your unit. If software updates do not correct it, then I would contact Humminbird and send the transducer and head unit in for service. They have a awesome customer service. I sent my 998 in for service on a Wednesday and had it back that Saturday. Mine was not showing up the left side of the side imaging about 30' out. Turned out to be the transducer was bad.

The photo in my first post was taken out of water, but the unit does the same thing in the water I can barely see the right side displaying the bottom thru the color band when I put the trolling motor down

So does the other 898 unit work okay on this same transducer when in the water?
What do you get when you connect your first 898 unit to the second 898’s transducer and test it in the water?
