Default Hds 8 structure scan not turning on sometimes.....question

So I just got everything installed today and I was turning the unit off and on messing with the settings a little from what others have suggested and sometimes the Structure Scan page would show " NO SOURCE". If I shut off the unit and turn it back on it's about 50/50 if the structure scan is going to come on. I've got the yellow wires together to turn on the structure scan box..... Any thoughts on this? Is it because it's out of the water?

Could be a bad ethernet cable or one not connected well.

X2. I had a bad ethernet cable right out the box. I had the same problem and since I replaced the cable everything is good. My unit would say No Source for 10-30 minutes and then just start up. At 1st I thought it just had to "wake up" but that didn't make much sense. I moved my cable one day and the pic went away so I then knew it needed a new cable.
I get cloudy pics when I encounter algae blooms but yours doesn't really sound like that.

Check yor connection where you put the 2 yellow wires together. If good may have to run your yellow to the cranking battery with a on/off switch.

I'm pretty sure it's good I wrapped it and soldered it good.... A couple guys mentioned on bbc that maybe I wasn't waiting long enough. And I probably wasn't, if it didn't come on right away I shut it off and tried again.

These units are pretty much computers and on boot up go through a set order of commands, just give it a little time.

Ive seen a few people acidently use the wrong yellow wire. The wire you want is boundled with the power and ground.

It's usually coming on now. Only once out last time I had to shut it off and turn it back on. I guess I can deal with that as long as it doesn't QUIT AFTER I get it going. But still, for something that costs 3x what my computer did, you'd think it would work right. I've read that this is the reason they don't tell you to hook the yellow wires together, that they come on more dependable with a manual switch. But, I'm happy with it for now. At least I can't forget to turn it off this way.

I have one on a switch and one is triggered by the HDS, so far no issues with either set up.

I may have to re-solder that connection.
