I was at bass pro a couple of days ago and tbought id look at the hummin ird display u.its.all of the si units 2d looked pretty bad.the 1198 was run.ing 6.10. They all had the twitching on si at very slow chart speed. It looked bad when i had all there display units twitching
You should have a link in your e-mail as well Skip.
I’ll need the serial number for your units to check which software they were produced with though. Wouldn’t want you to brick your units by loading an older version of software than what they were made with.
Thanks Greg, all fixed up now!
I really dont see why humming ird didnt just change there scroll were the slowest setting would be fast enough to keep the si screen from jurking.theres no need for the unit to be running that slow anyhows.
Ok ive been out of the loop on this update thread ,just caught up , still don't think I see any reason to update my unit , Kosmo , and rickie I know yall have them jumped up units and ducers , . Man I love seeing those shot you guys get.im happy with my unit right now.
I have a 998 with 6.49, just got a 898HD with 6.610, if I update the 898 to 6.74 will the 998 have to be updated also? They are both connected by Ethernet.
Back in the 6.680 version software it stated in the release notes:
“These software updates draw a line in the sand. Once a user updates one or more of their units to software version 6.640 or 6.680 they must update all of the other Ethernet networked units to the same release. If they try to use one unit with software version 6.680 and another unit on the same network that might be at 6.610 or lower these models will no longer talk to each other until the unit that is at 6.610 or lower has been updated to the newest release of 6.640 or 6.680. If the units are not networked, this issue is irrelevant. But we always recommend that the user update with the latest code.”
All software versions after 6.680 will have these same changes. So if you update your 898 to the 6.740 software you will also have to update your 998 unit to the current software (which is also 6.740) if you want them to communicate via the Ethernet connection.
Thanks Greg, I thought so just wasn't sure. I'm going to give 6.740 a try.
I'd recommend looking at the threads on BBC before you update. Many have updated, only to go way back in revisions due to the SI/DI/2D image degradation. Or keep older copies on additional SD cards to revert back to.
It's been recommended by many that if you don't have the newer hardware that requires newer updates, that you stay on the older versions.
I just installed a 898HD, it came with 6.610. From what I've seen 6.74 is the best version since 6.49. I don't want to risk bricking the unit going backwards and I must update the 998 to communicate thru Ethernet.
I have 6.74 and am pleased.
I believe that mduncan is a lowrance owner and as such has no personal experience with the latest hb offerings.
Correction, I am not an owner of any marine electronics, and am in the "Shopping" phase of selecting one for my Kayak. One need only read all of the information available on the internet. How many users have asked even on this board for Greg to provide older versions to roll back to? Several. It has been the topic of many threads on many boards. I am only reporting the information that has been posted.
Does owning a certain brand exclude you from commenting on an internet message board?
Might be going with the new Garmin. They look pretty slick.
I'm glad Mduncan mentioned viewing the BBC boards. There's a wealth of information there for anyone interested in purchasing new electronics. I found out about the software issue on H/B's, but when I looked over at the other products site, I found folks $3000 plus units had screen issues and replacements weren't available. Made my decision to buy a Humminbird much easier. The good news is the manufacturer finally got the issues fixed and folks who have been without their units will finally get a replacement. It sure pays to look over each companies products and issues before you make your purchase. I know other companies have had manufacturing defects in units and left folks waiting quite awhile for a replacement. Thankfully H/B hasn't had that problem. I'm confident that H/B will get this software issued fixed. My 200 2D, SI, and DI are excellent. I will admit my 200/83 and 83 sure could use some tweaking. Good fishin!
Exactly Shellback. That is what the internet is for. Some issues get resolved ASAP, and some don't. This is true for any product and any company. The consumers always are the victim.
No, I catch! And do it without the modern conveniences at that. It is possible to catch fish without 5K in electronics, and it's been that way for as long as fish have been around.
Gentlemen, please stay on topic. This thread is about HB 6.74
These are all from 6.740.im happy with the results im gettinghttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps680e7c53.jpghttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...psd0d73cc2.pnghttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps80d147b6.pnghttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...psdb55e2ec.pnghttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps055fa00f.pngsome people like to talk but others acually use there stuff. Forgive me if this has been answered already. When I update with my sd card. Does it have to be the one that I store my waypoints in and keep in my unit? I don't want to chance losing all my points that I have. Also do I update through hb pc or hb website? Thanks
So I finally purchased a Humminbird 798ci HD SI, Brand new still in box. Starting the install this weekend. My question is should I install the 6.740 update immediately after installation? or should I run the unit on the water before updating?
Thanks Rickie, saved me some time.
Kosmo
your 2d images look awesome. What are your set points to get those images
so do I still need to be using 6.49, and not be able to use my ipilot link or did they finally get 6.74 working correctly ?
thanks Rickie
so I guess a fix for this problem is somewhere way down the road, if at all
again thank you sir
HB says they are still working on some sort of workaround to remedy the 83 and 83/200 pixelation problems. They say this is a solution other than the Dual Beam workaround. I've tried 6.60, 6.61 and 6.74 on my two 998s and, in every case, went back to 6.49. Many say SI (and, therefore, DI) are improved in 6.74 over 6.49. I didn't see that. So, I'll just stick with 6.49. I'm not using any of the newer technologies such as 360 Imaging, iPilot link or the HS antennae so I don't need the programming capabilities of 6.74.
I am using the HS, and the link on a 958 & 1198, 6.74 is not as good as 6.49 IMHO. 2D has not been fixed!
Hope your wait isn't too much longer :dono
