Guys, I can see some big advantages to having the side imaging, but struggle with paying what could buy an aluminum rig for one. How much difference have they made for you guys on actually finding fish? Are you catch rates 25%, 50%, 100% better? I envision limiting out every time I go by knowing where they have moved to. Are they really worth $1600 ?

SI will find so much "new" structure...you can't even fish it all in 1 excursion...

The old sayin goes...90% of the fish are found in 10% of the water...

SI will allow you to find that "10% of the water"...and even show you if there are fish in it the actual moment you find it...

    .

After having my HDS-10 with StructureScan for a while now I am reminded
    of a similar experience.

In 2006 I left the PC world and bought an iMac. I fretted over how much
I was going to pay for it. After having it a year I reflected on the invoice
for my iMac and thought, "Is that ALL I paid for this computer ? Crap, it
    is worth more than that."

That's how I feel about my side scanning sonar now. Is that all I paid for
    this incredible device ??

It's like a man with 200/20 vision putting on glasses and then seeing 20/20

The other day I was running down riggers at my local power plant lake
for redfish. When this image scrolled across the screen I knew which
way to turn the boat --- and hooked up.

Think these guys have it covered. Rickie makes a good point, I can go by a brush pile and see if there are fish or not. Most times I can even tell if they are big enough, ie keepers or not. In my opinion well worth the money!

this is something I want and need to be able to do, see brush, see fish on it, in it, Can you elaborate on how you're doing this, including your equipment and settings? thanks

Brettw I have a 958 up front, I run a 1198 at the console. In my home lake there is not a lot of structure. What is there, has been placed there by fishermen, and Mother Nature. I have had both units for a little over a year. If I am not catching fish, I will start using the 1198 to find some structure that has fish on it. After I see them on SI I will mark it and then go back with TM and fish it. Keep in mind just because the fish are there doesn't mean I can get them to bite! As far as settings, I have never really had to adjust much except contrast, and I do change SI colors depending on whether it is sunny or cloudy. Last but not least I have some good friends that run Lowrance, I think it is really a ford/Chevy thing as far as brand. Get you a good finder and start using it. I think it's all about time on the water! If you need more info let me know.
Best thing I can tell you is find a crappie.com member and go for a ride on there boat, and check the finders out in person on the water. Shoot if your in OK send me a pm and we will go fishing and you can see them in action.
