Found myself in Pascagoula at the refineries hooking all the air compressors up that had torn loose in the flooding. They were pulling nets through the retaining ditches and loading up with fish and shrimp. Several trucks loaded with full coolers.
So my first Crappie Chaser I bought from a guy in Pascagoula. He told me he took his Preacher out fishing just the week before. It is my First Blazer VL100. Well while showing me the boat the guy tries to start the old 90hp Crossflow while it is trimmed up and on the kickstand. Of course it didn't start, I realized I was being blown a lot of smoke and low-balled a take it or leave it offer. I think the guy realized the Jig was UP so he took the money and I hooked up to the boat. Fortunately for me it started raining and if you remember Hwy 90 is full of red lights. Not trusting the trailer wheel bearings I drove Hwy 90 all the way across the Gulf Coast back to Kiln. Well I seemed to have Divine Intervention as I caught just about every red light on the highway. I was trying to hit every water puddle I could because while stopped at a light I would check the sideview mirrors to see how much steam was coming off the hubs. I made it home but had to weld new spindles on that axle. I got 6 gallons of water out of the gas tank and a pile of marsh grass out of the Cap to Hull seam on the inside. This boat obviously got swamped during Katrina and the owner cleaned it up to sell as best he could. I still have that boat but it will be sold when I can give it some attention to preparation for putting it up for sale.
