    Nice save. I kept some of our wild muscadines and planted the seeds just for giggles. Whatever muscadine I have from my grandfather (only 1 survived) I have in a pot and it’s growing good. Hopefully next year I can get some fruit and see what it is. He had a couple types muscadine and couple types scuppernong and a Concord grape but nobody remembers which was which.

    This is a picture of a Cezar Lemon fig about as big as a golf ball. I walked out to see what was buzzing all over it and found it was Honey Bees. Seemed like a small swarm so many was on this fig and in the air around it. I had to blow this picture up as I wasn't comfortable with the bees flying all around me to get this shot. I sent the picture to Bon Temps since he keeps bees and he replied there is not much for the bees for forage from right now. Also adding they are gorging themselves on fruit the probably pollinated months ago. Interesting side events always happen when growing fruit.

    Very cool. I rather see the bees than wasp I've seen on a couple of mine.

    Default Harvesting Fuyu Persimmons

    My tree was loaded with Fuyu Persimmons so I cut a 5gal bucket a few days ago.

    I put them in glass bowls in the Kitchen to ripen. Looking at the tree yesterday I realized another 5gal bucket needed to be cut so I got it done.

    This is the last of the Fuyu Persimmons. Ripening them in the Kitchen makes it easy to remove the ones that are soft enough for processing. I strip picked the balance of fruit on the tree today. The 5 gallon bucket was full but my neighbor got a little greedy when she said she wanted a dozen but took over 2 dozen from the bucket. Still plenty to process for cooking later. The unique taste of a ripe Persimmon complements the flavor of smoked BBQ Pork. I'm working on a BBQ sauce made with these Fuyu Persimmons for Pulled Pork with a Twist.

    That’s a beautiful site in the kitchen. I eat them crunchy and very few have the opportunity to get really soft…..lol. I love them. Your tree really produced good this year. Wonder how long before grafted trees will start fruiting?

    Certainly your third year you should see flowers set. I've noticed with Persimmon trees much like Citrus trees if no fruit the tree grows very fast. I removed all the fruit from 2 Owari Satsuma trees and one Persian Lime tree for 3 years and the trunks of the trees really thickened up well also all 3 produced heavy branch structure. Now I realize the importance of letting the tree grow a few years before allowing it to fruit. I found a video that had other non-astringent Persimmon varieties last night. I cut back the one tree I have last year and it produced more than ever this year.

    Thats what I’m going to do then. The trees grafted on mostly were pretty healthy and established and i believe the grafts should take off this coming spring.

    My Meyer Lemon tree is just killin' it with production. 2 full crops this past year.
