After the tree crew left I inspected one of my Topworked Pecan trees, one that had a large top section blow out of the tree in a hurricane year before last. Monitoring tree health keeps you from having to put a fire out. I found something I never had here before. Numerous tips of the limbs where the pecan flowers form split. I looked and almost every tip had split. Low and behold each split tip set pecans so now I have a double crop of pecans set on each limb. I think Ketchn's KABOOM is the word here.

Well growing all those fig trees created a monster. I put the auger on the bobcat and drilled a few holes. 16 to be exact. I'm still working on fixing the property here along with a truck load of other jobs. In one picture the stump grinder shavings were pushed back where the stump was, nothing will grow there, I had to use the backhoe to pull the shavings out of the way so I can backfill the hole with top soil before planting another fig tree in that location.



These next pictures the new trees are mixed in with potted trees. I have more dirt work to do before moving the potted trees out of the way.



Once the dirt work is done and the potted trees are moved new irrigation lines will be needed too. The work from the storm is keeping me loaded up daily. It will end soon but not today.

No, after living here 33 years someone build 30 or so individual house rental units next to me. My plan is to grow a screen along the fence. I only need about 10ft in height so I will prune the growth to spread but still bush. This is why I am forcing the trees to grow straight up. I will head the tree high enough to make it branch higher than normal. This will speed to screen growth. Also much easier to keep critters from climbing a single trunk fig tree.

Plus you will get to eat from your privacy screen.

Figs are starting to ripen, not fast enough for me. I walk thru the yard have dessert right off the trees.



This first one is a Miss Hall fig. It's still swelling a bit and the neck is still firm so I'm watching & waiting. This one is a 3 biter!



This second is Condaria fig. I could have cut this one in quarters. The first ones of the season ripen mis-shapened sometimes. Still very sweet, juicy, tender, Large fig variety that the birds will leave alone since it stays green.



I rooted this LSU Purple fig tree Spring before last and planted it in a raised bed. Man, it has taken off this year. Seems raised beds are needed in this area. It use to be very large Water Oaks here but one was leaning towards our house and the other towards the Power Lines after the last Hurricane. We had them removed last summer, thankfully before that Tornado or we would be living in our Camper right now.

They look awesome. I hope I can get some figs to ripen this year. That Miss Hall is a gorgeous fig. Very pretty colored.

The Miss Hall fig is one of Stan's. I've just about figured out Stan makes up names for his trees that he does not have a exact name of. That being said there are stories online about how wonderful Miss Hall figs were. Should be ready to eat today or tomorrow.
