Most are nothing more than buckets with a battery air unit hung on the side. Some are insulated and some are not. Most are smaller at bottom making them top heavy and subject to tipping over. I wish some company would make a better minnow bucket. Low profile, wider on the bottom with non-slip bottom, about 3 gallon size, with a rechargeable aerator that you could also plug into AC outlet over night, insulated, and durable. Until some company does, buy a small plastic insulated cooler and add a small aerator.. $12 for cooler + $8 aerator= $20 total better than most minnow buckets.
Take a Kid fishing, keep only enough to eat, and release the rest to spawn again. Pop

Never lose any with this, 100 degree heat carry a few frozen water bottles and swap them out as they melt. Works great
When your fishing down here in August for those deep crappie and its 110 degrees in the boat, you begin to wonder if there is a good minner bucket for keepin em alive. And yes, we reguarly put ice on them.
X2. Cabela's used to sell them, and everyone I know who has gotten one wouldn't go back to Frabill, Cool Bubbles or any other bucket. The aerator is much quieter than any other aerated bucket I've been around or owned, and the batteries last forever it seems like. They keep minnows alive better by far than any other bucket I've ever used.
You can see my cooler in my avatar. I keep it full of water and have a bubble machine I use a few times if I am out late. I also installed a live well light in it for those early mornings.

I think the mistake a lot of us make is thinking the state-appointed shrink is our friend.
Here is a bigger one.

Made my own with a small cooler and an aereator. Works good and keeps the minnows alive in all kinds of weather. In the summer, when real hot, I will add some ice cubes every so often.
Made a bigger one for buying minnows in bulk. Put an aquarium pump in it. Haven't used it yet--but hopefully real soon.

You can keep them cool a number of different ways, but none of that matters when they go from 50* water to 90* water.
