Duck Butter: This topic got very heated here a few months ago with many different opinions, so most of us are going to leave this alone in case you're wondering why nobody has replied :).

The only real difference I saw in that study from pre to post was the average crappie caught was....and get this......hold your seat......BIGGER!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmmm. Imagine that.
That hot topic was started by me regretfully ...managing fisheries is like predicting where a hurricane will land...next to impossible...to many possibilities and unforeseen variables...although i think from the last regulations i have read is that Toledo Bend has adopted a 25 fish limit on both Texas and La side...although i am not certain if it really is law..discussing fishing regulations is like politics...no one will ever agree...so for me i do as my father taught me...keep what ya need let the rest go...treat your lake/river/bayou as if its your backyard fishery...if you feel the need to keep them all or let them all go, then that's what you should do
Bob,It should go effective Spetember 1, 2011.. Basically by doing that it will cut down the limit for both states to 25 and eliminates the size limit for Texas.. Unless I misunderstood it, but I don't think I did... It will also effect Caddo Lake along with Toledo Bend... Here is a link that will explain it some.Quote:

Sorry about this and I do not want this to be personal or anything, but that is all great, but a few things are very much backwards. You throw back female crappie during the spawn, which is fine, but you keep the biggest red snapper you can catch? A 20 lb snapper may be upwards of 50 years old, just saying, and the big ones are the sows = females.Quote:

I think what DB is trying to say is some of the information on here is opinions/what they've been told and not facts. He is educated in basically everything that involves the outdoors and makes a living from it though he hasn't pointed that out. I appreciate accurate information especially when it involves white perch. Mississippi probably has the best understanding of the crappie. More research is done there on that species of fish than anywhere else in the world. Everything they do has a rhyme or reason, and it works. I've gathered a lot of good info by viewing their forum.

JL thanks for the update....maybe the rest of the state will follow...
I wondered how long it would take for some one to suggest they expand the Caddo/Toledo crappie regulations to encompass the whole state. Just a few days, not a record but sooner than I expected. When this fails to accomplish the desired goals of catching trophies on every trip, we'll see size limits also imposed, then what?

How about if the first letter of your last name is in the first half of the alphabet, you can fish fish on Mon. Wed. and FRI. Everyone else can fish Tues. Thur. and Sat. No one can fish on Sun.
This is just an extrapolation of Gov'T/Regulatory thinking... and unintended consequences. I will fish as often as I can, where ever I can. I hope the joy I get from catching a few remains and for ONCE the State of La. has made the right call. I'll be glad to eat my words if time proves me wrong.... we'll see God Bless All...BC
They have meetings and locations planned for input, but won't list the dates or times. They can decide to implement the new laws on Sept. 1, 2011, but aren't sure when they want to get "input". Ha Ha!!!!! Like they really care what the public thinks.........
The gustapo needs more rules so they can collect more capital from the crappie fishermen........ Who cares if there is an actual reason for cutting the limit to 25 fish. I don't yo-yo and if I find lots of crappie biting I take my son. That gives us 50 crappie to legally catch. I don't think I've ever caught that many. BUT, not too far away is the time when only the very rich will be able to go fishing and hunting in this country, just like overseas, because the average person is clueless as to what freedom is and how it is lost.

I think Doc is following the rules of conduct set forth by the founder and owner. Everyone can have an opinion and state it but let's not get down and dirty as so many other forum have and have fallen into decline. We don't have to belittle anyone that has a different opinion than ours. I and my family don't need this kind of stuff here and if you feel you must go down that road, then go, but somewhere else or take it off line. The family atmosphere and comradery is what makes this site special. Thanks to Ed and the admins for keeping it that way.

okay, i have bitten my tongue until now. if yall want to bash each other and use slurs that deal with anatomy or intelligence or anything like that, then go do it somewhere else. there are plenty of bass fishing boards that thrive on that. i think that's where some of yall came from. go back if yoiu don't like the family atmosphere here are CDC. we won't allow a few hot heads to ruin something that is great. everyone is welcome, just behave. and if insults is your game, then take it somewhere else.
im not being touchy, i just love this site and refuse to allows a few folks to run off all the members that follow the rules.

Mark, I am gonna lock it and let it move its way down the board.. Some people interpret things differently from others and like we said before, we want everyone to get along so they enjoy coming to the site.
