Mono vs Braid
Anybody out there run braid for pulling cranks? How much depth do you gain because of the line diameter difference vs the mono. Thinking about making the switch over to 20lb braid. I've heard that 20lb braid is the equivalent of running 6-8lb mono which would make baits run much deeper then my mono set up.

Bout a foot or two difference. The more line out the bigger the depth difference. I stagger my rods in 10 ft increments with my deepest rod being directly on the depth the fish are holding at. Always rather be above them, generally the fish tell me the depth they want it at and adjust from there

I think most run braid to more easily bend hooks when hung up on a stob, brush pile or a 30 pound catfishes face, also it's more durable than mono. I use mono myself, the depth your going to gain is not that much in my opinion, like MO said maybe a foot or two at best. Don't know how deep your planning on getting you cranks down too, but for me to have more than 75-80 foot of line out is very unusual. I don't like reeling them in that far, LOL. If I had to go deeper than 15' or so I might just use weights instead of pulling 150' of line behind the boat. :twocents

Just looking for the strength loosing $8 crank on a brush pile hurts the pocket book! Some articles and forums I read guys said braid throws off your depth. Last year was my first year pulling cranks so I went with the mono. Been looking at a couple spools of 20lb spider wire braid in my garage thinking about swapping all the reels over. Just wasn't sure still a noob to the pulling cranks deal.

I use braid to have enough muscle to pull out snagged cranks and to man handle cats and drums, etc. braid will run a little deeper. Just watch your rods as you go across a known depth flat. When they start jumping you can adjust your charts to your set up. While I started with mono I switched to braid and started saving more lures. Have fun with whichever you use. Braid will slice your hand like a knife though so be careful.

I use 40lb braid, have for several years and the loss of crankbaits went down dramatically!

I use 15/4 power pro. I like it don't run as much line out.

I stated out running Depth Hunter Power Pro braid 40/10 so I did not have to go out and by any line counter reels. About the only issue that I have had is when you get a crank bait wrapped up in your other line it can take some time getting the mess out.
