Float and Fly rod

This may be a really dumb question guys but I figured I'd ask anyway. I was looking into getting a float and fly rod for smallmouth bass fishing in the early spring and late fall/early winter on the river I live by. I was looking at the BnM Tennessee Handle float and fly rod they sell which is 9'11" I believe, not sure on the reel yet, maybe a Pflueger Arbor.

I was wondering, would this rod be able to pull double duty as a good all around crappie rod in the spring and summer? Not for spider rigging or pulling cranks, or anything like that. I primarily fish slip floats, live baits, dipping jigs around cover, or casting jigs. I was hoping maybe this rod could double as another option for crappie fishing (crappie float and fly basically) the rest of the year. What do you guys think?

I would think it would work fine. I use a 8ft fly rod myself. It's going to come down to personal preference.

I've got the 8ft. version of the Float-n-fly & it's great for pitching/dipping slip float rigs.

I got a" southern crappie rod " 6ft. ,8ft. and 10 ft .

Mike, I think it would work fine. I have two of the 8' FnF rods (Duckworth version) as I was a fieldtester for BnM for those rods. They're great for using floats, or even just casting.

I think the longer rods w/longer handles would even be better, and I see no reason why it wouldn't serve you well as a "double duty" rod.

I have a bud who uses a fly rod a lot ....its a 3 weight 7 footer
they are to limber for me and crappie but a lot of folks like them for crappie

I had a 10' All Pro F&F rod. Built like a truck and all great components. It was a great rod but this one was a bit too nose heavy for me. Gave it to a friend for his B-Day and he loves it. It had a fairly long hypalon handle with slider rings but after trying the reel in many different positions I went back to the BGJP I have become comfortable with.

I've got the BnM float and fly 10ft model ....... I use it to crappie fish and like it pretty well...... Throw 32nd jigs under a small strike indicator..... Have caught multiple bass accidently and the rod handeled them fine ...... The BnM would be a good dual purpose Rod....... I also have a St Croix Rod made for float and fly fishing..... It's a lot nicer than the BnM but the price tag reflects the fact...... Can't go wrong with either one honestly

Forgot to mention I have a pfluger supreme on the St Croix and a pfluger president on the BnM ....... Just make sure the the reel isn't to big / heavy for the rod...... Both reels are very nice

My field test model has seen plenty of action to CP...Hard to believe two OL' KENTUCKY BOYS helped design such a great rod...lol...
