No fishing shouldn’t hurt. Good job getting out and catching some.

It was hot already when I arrived to a busy park area.
I had stripped off the braid off several reels and spooled with Ande 2# ,and the braid’s casting and handling characteristics were fresh on my mind , I took a few rods and went to lake McIntosh.
We I got there the parking lot was full , but clearing out.
The rowing club had some kind of function going on earlier.
This is Saturday, there were several boat trailers in the lot , along with several paddle board folks launching or blowing up their boards getting ready to launch, but nobody bank fishing .
The sun was already bearing down with the temperature in the mid 80’s .
I tried to stay out of everybody’s way and fished my little micro jigs in what few spots were available.
I managed to catch 8 gills , 3 green sunfish , and a couple shellcrackers .
I had taken a 5’ Presso rod , a 5’2” SeaSir rod and a 6’3” Abu Garcia Mass Beat 3 , all wearing a size 500 Shimano reel .
I really liked the SeaSir rod . It has become a favorite. It’s light , casts my tiny jigs well with 2# line , and has a nice bend even with small fish .
I’ve gotten where I can’t fish rods much over five feet .
Even the Abu Garcia MB3 , as light as it is , caused my wrist and hand to start hurting after only a few casts . It’s the twitching using longer rods that aggravate my wrist .
Fishing isn’t supposed to hurt . It’s supposed to be fun.
When I got home I did some experimenting with the Abu Garcia MB3 .
I cut out a section above the grip and shortened it to 4’8”.
It being a four piece , made it easier to shorten.
I’ve epoxied the lower section making it a three piece rod now .
Report coming once I get to fish with it.
I found this unusual flower blooming right near the water line .

Nice mixed bag of sunnies. I have a hard time fishing short rods and prefer longer rods. Only have one ultralight rod under 6 feet. My right shoulder does ache some while fishing. Probably from two rotator surgeries in the last ten years. Not going to stop me from fishing though.

Thanks Jim .
The longer rods ,while twitching aggravates the arthritis in my wrists .
I can still use them for other types of fishing but most of my fishing is twitching a jig .
I like a 6’6” or 7’ for float fishing. But I’m just casting and slow retrieving without a lot of wrist movement .
I need to do more float fishing , I just addicted to twitching and the feel of the thump.

Sorry to say that y’all’s aches and pains have company at my house. I’ve noticed a sore shoulder after. Busy day casting a few times and I dont like it. Like Jim said, it’s not going to stop me. Part of the aging process I guess. Good looking fish and I’m glad to hear that you got out for a decompression.
