it amazes me how ferocious a bluegill can be sometimes
hammering a 2.5 long inch bait when it aint but 4 or 5 inches long
in ice cold water as well ....

My state's record is 4 lbs 5 oz. Can't imagine a bluegill that big coming out of the water. Caught on a catalpa worm. My great grand dad had a catalpa tree and would use the worms/caterpillars for catfish and bluegills. He would coat them in corn flour I think it was and put them in the freezer and they would go dormant and come back to life after taking them out. Wish I had one but they get big
