I use black a lot. It’s a good color for me. KABOOM
could not get a bite , raining and cold ....
tried to get bit and could not make it happen ....got a lil desperate ...never do well on black is me ....but ....
went to a solid black plastic about a million foot deep WAY out in the middle of the lake ....
changed my luck just like that , got bit EVERY cast ....but ....
due to my 7 foot XXTRA light with only 4 lb test on it ....
and a stiff cross wind creating a lot of slack
missed about 3 or 4 per take down ....
just couldn't get solid hooksets with that set up that far away ....
oh well I say ,some beats none ....
KABOOM is near
hooked bass , bluegill and even a catfish too ...
lost one really large bluegill and the catfish ....
not a single crappie in the mix
sometimes it just is what it is ,,,,
40 or less , raining off and on , nice crosswind and right miserable out there , just saying ....
there is some good news , the rain would quit a few minutes here and there and the wind would lay for a few with it , that was the part that was best for sure
and to be VERY sure them images don't even do justice to the conditions that visit ....![]()

Black and dark olive , natural looking colors are my bread and butter.
Years ago used to be white , now I can’t get a nibble on it .
Few weeks ago I was having trouble getting bit so I tried an orange and chartreuse and boom .
Just never know .
Nice ketchin! Kaboom!

I don't use black if I'm pursuing crappie but bass and gills love black, especially when the water is colder and clearer this time of year. Some great catches over the years with big bass using black hair jigs in cold water, even with skim ice on parts of the lake. Trout really like black too.
I have some cranks with black that work pretty well. Never tried a jig..

Funny cause black (with chart tail) is almost my daily #1. LOVE those pan sized gills.![]()
I use a black grub on a homemade underspin for bass. I've heard black is the best color for bluegill, I would take purple too
I had heard about black baits ever since I moved to Florida in the early seventies. Never did much with anything black except a plastic worm of one style or another. At the time I was almost 100% bass fishing. Fast forward a bunch of years and my light tackle tendencies started to show themselves and everything was like I had to learn it again. Black has slowly been added into most of my fishing and I’m here to tell you that for me it just works. At times I used a black bait but didn’t present it right and got nothing. Change something in the presentation and here we go. I have some black Bandit cranks that are always in my spread and they always catch fish. Tiny black jigs of many different styles have also filled my days with good fish. Some don’t get to the bottom before they’re hit. A black curl tail, like a white one, is always in my box. A 1 gram black jighead and a one and a half inch curl tail is often a magic bullet. So I’ve changed my ways over the years and I think of the fish that I didn’t catch from being hardheaded. Everything eats black at some time, just some more than others.
