I had to know if the gills were still active in the creek since the cold nights have set in .
Today was a beautiful sunny day with a predicted high of 55 and light winds , so I grabbed a 4’10” Major Craft Finetail glass rod , paired with a Shimano Soare XR500spg and 2# Floroclear line and drove down to the creek below lake McIntosh.
I had the area to myself and the water level was back to normal.
I had high hopes .
I started off with a 4mm tungsten jig and mini trout magnet and after several casts , finally caught a small shoal bass .
After some more fruitless casting I switched to a chartreuse and orange rabbit fur handtie and on my second cast caught another small bass .
A few casts later another little bass that got off while trying to lip it and with me standing at waters edge it flopped right back in .
After an hour of casting I gave up and headed up to the reservoir to try my luck .
Nothing !
If I’d had time I would have driven back to the town pond . That’s where a lot of my winter fishing will be until spring , unless I get the opportunity to fish the big reservoir about an hour away .
Enjoyed my time out . Warmed up enough to take my heavy jacket off toward the end .
I may get a chance to give the creek another try next Thursday for a quick trip . Maybe I’ll do better .
