Back when I used US market line I would change it out every few weeks. But I was fishing 3-5 days a week four or five hours on the water. When I started using Varivas line my line changing became far less frequent. But when fishing the polyester line I change it out every 6 weeks or so. It seems that fishing it in the heat of summer degrades it more so than nylon. Of course the Ester line is a very small diameter. As when to retie. If I’m fishing for bluegill, and latch onto a bigger fish I always retie. I will retie after 8 or 9 bluegill. I’ve got some 4# test Varivas on one reel that has been on there for two years. I only use it when chasing larger trout on the river but it has held up well. I just recently changed out some Varivas 3# test after 1.5 years of use. The only reason I changed it was due to tying, retie, breaking off when hung up, and so on. The line had gotten too low on the spool so I just changed it.
