    Default Good day of fishing

The snow from earlier this week has melted. Air temperatures in the mid 50s, aittle more wind than I prefer but the way this spring has been here you have to take what you get. I was able to try out my two new JDM rods on some crappie. Caught a total of 41 and missed a lot more than I Caught. Brought the 7 that were over 9 inches home. About 30 of them were right around 6 inches, fish somewhat schooled up in 25 fow anywhere from 8 to 14 deep. Name: 20220422_140043.jpg

Great way to break in those JDM rods. Nothing quite like the thump of a crappie

Water temp around 48 to 49 degrees, not a lot of thumps, mostly little tics.

The first thump after about 4 hours of fishing caught me by surprise, scared me a little.

I missed a lot of fish, I actually think I was doing better with the Finetail than the Lunakia. I could feel them better on the Lunakia just wasn't getting them hooked up, had the reel spooled up with braid, I image that is why I could feel the bites better. The reel on the Finetail was spooled with 4lb nylon. Next trip I think I will swap the reels around to see how that goes.

I think when that water temperature warms a bit more the bite will become aggressive and the braid should shine for bite detection. Nothing wrong with nylon except the stretchy mushy feel of the light biters. Choice of lures and fishing techniques also will cause a big difference in bite detection with the different lines, on a tight line braid is hard to beat. Hope to see more pics of fish and the sticks you capture them with!

Back out this afternoon for about 5 hours. 30 crappie total. 5 legal fish over 9 inches. Only fish with the Linakia with 0.2 PE on a Abu Garcia Theta same set up as yesterday with the exception of a 2 ft mono leader used 2lb SOS, leader was mainly so I could tie a loop not. Had two jigs come off yesterday trying to use a loop knot with the PE. Missed a good many bites to start like yesterday. Changed to a smaller hand tied jig and the hook ups got better. The small fish were generally around 8 inches vs 6 inches yesterday. Live well started life as a rod locker, bought it used to convert to a livewell.Name: 20220423_173830.jpg
