I think when that water temperature warms a bit more the bite will become aggressive and the braid should shine for bite detection. Nothing wrong with nylon except the stretchy mushy feel of the light biters. Choice of lures and fishing techniques also will cause a big difference in bite detection with the different lines, on a tight line braid is hard to beat.
