Thanks to all for the comments. The bait shop has been closed for years....not sure how many but long time back. The lake used to be really bad with moss. A number of years back they put some white amur in the lake and it seems to have helped. The last time I used the ramp was back in 2016 I think it was. I am going back this week and try to figure out how to load my boat without getting in water waist deep. My trailer is a little different and cannot use the trolling motor to get it on. But the courtesy dock is right beside the ramp so maybe I can walk the dock ramp and pull boat onto trailer. It is obvious to me I have been passing up some good bluegill water that is relatively close. Get the boat in and maybe I can find some crappie. Best of my memory when I fished it in a kayak there were a lot of black perch at the head of the lake where that creek runs in.

They are rock bass. In TN folks refer to them as black perch...and they too are delicious.

thanks, I've heard of them here, although I've never caught any. They aren't too common here. From what I've seen online, they have a lot of parasites here.

Glad to see you getting out some. Met a man yesterday that had both knees replaced and was fishing out of a small gheenoe with a friend. You’ll be back up in no time. I thought of you when he spoke of his knee issues.

The way I launch and recover my boat a lot is to put the trailer as close as possible to the walkway and step from the boat to the dock, after driving it on. Maybe that would work for you at the right ramp.

Normandy Lake is close to you. Is there no bluegill and cracker population there? I’ve caught some good crappie there in years past.

No good bluegill or shell cracker at Normandy. The problem at Bedford is you can’t use the big motor…trolling motor only. So I’m going to have to try and see can I pull the boat by rope onto the trailer as I walk the dock walkway. I think I can as the dock is right beside the length of the ramp. At VFW there is no dock and with my boat you have to get in the water. I’ve seen folks at VFW spend 45 minutes trying to get there boat back on the trailer before giving up and getting in the water. I’ve also seen a few who break the rules and crank the big motor to get it on…and have also witnessed 2 tickets being issued.

Terrific Crappie at Normandy but the gills and crackers are small. I've caught my share and have never caught a Bluegill at Normandy that compares to the Centerhill or Dale Hollow Bluegills. However Crappie are a different story. My PB came from Normandy and my daughter caught one 16-1/4 ". It was so big around it looked like it swallowed a baseball. 2nd biggest Crappie I've ever seen. The biggest was at Reelfoot. It's nose and tail were touching a 20" cooler.
