Hello and hope everyone is well! So here we go again, not gonna beat around the bush, I got JDM rod questions. To start off I finally broke my “entry level” Japanese Market only rod: a Abu Garcia mass beat 1st generation (went through lots of fish) 582ul….it’s user error and I won’t go there. To make it short I already ordered a replacement in light game action, unlike the AG mass beat which was a trout rod (no trout streams in the deserts.) The said rod is a Ares Blue Porter aj509s. I was in a dilemma when comparing this mid-level rod to the formidable Yamaha Blanks Blue Current iii in 510ul guise. Base on the name and price given I think I’m safe to say these 2 rods are competing models (YB enthusiasts can chime in on this part). So why pick the Ares Blue Porter since like the Tict Rockin Finesse, which I own, the Yamaga Blanks was highly recommended by so many forum members? Since both will be purchased sight unseen, so to speak, it came down to 4 determining factors: look, 1 extra guide (9 vs 8), carbon content, and this last one might be a mute point ( because I think YB is also) Made in Japan! So the questions are: Should carbon content be a determining factor and does it have any advantages( still trying to learn more?) Sorry in advance if these has been addressed to death before. Here’s the specs for both….
