Gotta Change Sometimes
Tried for a while yesterday for some gills or crappie with some small plastics on jigs. Many casts yielded nothing. Put it on a bobber and still nothing. I was about to quit but I grabbed the old Mitchell 309 and Conolon Ultralight 5 foot rod with a small Beetle Spin tied on. Three casts, three fish. That's was it for fishing because supper time was calling. But it was a good way to end the day.

Boy, that gill in the last pic is the real deal. I think I would have been late for supper. And that there rod/reel combo is still pretty popular in my neck of the woods. Does yours have a '76 USA flag decal? That's the year I purchased that great little ultralite.

I have a 6' 6 conolon rod paired with a Mitchel 300 I use for big holdover rainbows on the Colorado river. I also like pan fish on the glass rods.

Wow! That's like looking in a mirror. The 309 not only has the handle on the opposite side as the 308, the rotor turns in the opposite direction too. The reel matches perfectly with the little Conolon rod, nice balance, easy and fun to use. No flag though.That bluegill sure did put a good bend in the rod!

Thanks for the thought. That handle was taped in '76 to keep off fish slime. There is some tape residue since it has been on that long. If I decide to remove, is there a cleaner that would not damage the cork?. If you have a answer please PM me. Do not want to get off subject with Fishfishwish post. Thanks. Dan
