    Default Owner Acorn Floats.

I decided to try out my* Owner Acorn floats at the Normandy Tailrace for trout....can't get to my bluegill waters just yet. Chris has tested these out with the 1 and 1.5 gram Daiwa Gekkabijin jig heads. Here is what he has to say about them "A 1g Gekkabijin jig head and soft plastic will sink the float to the line at the bottom of the yellow stripe on the float. The 1.5g Gekkabijin jig head and soft plastic will sink the float to the line at the top of the yellow stripe.
The fluorescent orange top makes them quite visible, so whether or not the yellow stripe is above the surface, the orange tp makes the float very easy to see in either still or moving water." His assessment is spot on. I put one on.....got the depth right for fishing the Trout Magnet as the current pulled it down stream. These things are great...you can tell immediately a trout has nosed the TM...set the hook and game on. I caught 19 trout and the best part is 10 of them were at the 13 inch mark. This was a ton of fun on the Banshee Super Ultra Light. I am hoping that the rain..wind really old off for this coming week so I can at least try to fish my old haunts....that's providing the state does not get locked down.*???Regards

Nice catch. Those floats look good, do they attach with a rubber sleeve or do they clip on?

Thanks....they attach with a rubber sleeve. Really chomping at the bit to find some bedding bluegill in the tees to use these things on.....very sensitive.

    Regards

Did you twitch the float while riding the current? Will you twitch for the Gills? I find on a float, a lot of times the little rascals will wait until the bait is still, then strike.

For trout you just let it float down with the current. It has been a long time since I used a float for bluegill. But back then I would just let it sit. This was when Center Hill Lake was a bonanza for big bluegill. Hoping it becomes that way again in a few weeks.

    Regards

You can make a couple pops with the float, and let it sit and repeat,or make one slow revolution with handle and stop and repeat.

That’s exactly what I did when I went Trout fishing in stamp creek (north Georgia) the other day in the deep pools with slow current. I just let it float naturally with the current in the most turbulent part of the creek. I have the acorns floats in all 3 sizes (40, 45 and 55 mm) but like Randy mentioned earlier I also used the 55 mm with both 1.0 and 1.5 jig heads (cultiva JH-84) rigged with TM bodies. These floats are very sensitive and bite detection is great so even small fish can pull them under the water. I highly recommend these but note that you have to untie your hook or jig if you decide to remove the float from your line because you have to thread it through the small rubber sleeve that comes with each float.
Which brings me to my second point: don’t be like me and rush or use excessive force (I.e lack of patience) when trying to remove the float. I was trying to break my light line with my hand after being snagged in the trees and I accidentally pulled the line through the small sleeve and ripped it in half. There you go .... now I have no way to mount that float! Fortunately for me, I had a few extra of the same size ...

The smaller pieces of tubing here will probably work. Just cut them to the size you like.

Raven also sells tubing. I'm not sure if it's the correct size for the Acorn floats, though.

Little trick when running this type of floats. Put one rubber sleeve on top and 2 on the bottom stem. if you rip one off you have an extra already on it.
