That’s exactly what I did when I went Trout fishing in stamp creek (north Georgia) the other day in the deep pools with slow current. I just let it float naturally with the current in the most turbulent part of the creek. I have the acorns floats in all 3 sizes (40, 45 and 55 mm) but like Randy mentioned earlier I also used the 55 mm with both 1.0 and 1.5 jig heads (cultiva JH-84) rigged with TM bodies. These floats are very sensitive and bite detection is great so even small fish can pull them under the water. I highly recommend these but note that you have to untie your hook or jig if you decide to remove the float from your line because you have to thread it through the small rubber sleeve that comes with each float.
Which brings me to my second point: don’t be like me and rush or use excessive force (I.e lack of patience) when trying to remove the float. I was trying to break my light line with my hand after being snagged in the trees and I accidentally pulled the line through the small sleeve and ripped it in half. There you go .... now I have no way to mount that float! Fortunately for me, I had a few extra of the same size ...

The smaller pieces of tubing here will probably work. Just cut them to the size you like.

Raven also sells tubing. I'm not sure if it's the correct size for the Acorn floats, though.

Good report on the floats Randy! They sound like good ones.

Little trick when running this type of floats. Put one rubber sleeve on top and 2 on the bottom stem. if you rip one off you have an extra already on it.

Quick question. With the very small diameter tip tops that the JDM rods have, did you have any problems with your bobber stop? What is the tip top diameter that you found to work best.
    Thank you for any advice.

I don’t use it as a slip float. I just slip the sleeve on the bottom of the float and adjust depth. Most of the JDM rods I use couldn’t handle any bobber stops. Not sure how much smaller they can get the guides but the newer rods are beyond tiny.

Just some Followup on the Acorns, AH. Have you had a chance to give them a workout as of yet?
    Thanks,
    Bob
