    Default Hook problem for bream...

I'll actually catch about 1 out of each 5 big bream runs that I get under a bobber, and I think it's a hook problem. What size, type, and company lure do you use for bream? Also, should I keep just a bit or a lot of the hook tip exposed? Do you miss most bream runs?

#6 Aberdeen light wire hook by Eagle Claw or
    #8 Aberdeen light wire

Will catch everything from big gills and crackers to 3 finger red eyes.

I miss one or two bites, its part of fishing. Sounds like you are using to big of a hook or to much bait, and they are mouthing the bait and when you set the hook it pulls out.

I use a #14 or #16 dry fly hook most of the time.

Your problem may be the float, though, not the hook. If the float is sensitive enough, you won't miss bites. Use a waggler like this:

and add enough split shot so that only 1/8" of the tip is sticking out of the water.

I will have to agree w/ the rest of them. I use a light wire #6 for two reasons. The size is perfect to catch everything your fishing for and also if you get hung on your spot, generally they will bend out and come off. This eliminates having to go and disturb your hole. Keep the corks a flushin'!

Whether you use a 4 or 6 I always take a pair of pliers and open up the throat of the hook a little bit. That helps me with ny short bites.. Good Fishin

I use #6 light wire aberdeen hooks and a very small float. I miss one or two most times I go fishin, that just goes with the territory. Maybe you have too much slack in your line and don't get the hook set in time. Also, I almost always fish with crickets and I leave the hook point inside the abdomen of the cricket. Never had a problem with it. I insert the hook under the thorax and thread it down into the abdomen. When I do use worms, I use the red wrigglers that are about 3 inches long. Thread it on so that it covers the shank and leave about one inch wigglin of the end. Hope this helps.

I also use bronze aberdeen number 6 hooks. I do what beenfishin? said, I thread a worm onto the hook and leave maybe a half inch left off the end with the hook exposed. It could also be you not having the line tight enough, or you may be setting the hook too hard and pulling it out?

I Agree With The Other Guys About Hook Size,
Use The Smallest Float That Will Work For You
And If You Are Using Worms Try Not Using
A Sinker. The Worm Drifts Down Naturally
And I Catch More With No Weight.
