Great video. on the subject of netting fish, I started using lite wire hooks for crappie about 8 years ago.these hooks will bend if you try to swing a big fish in the boat so we started netting every fish during a tournament. Now Just out of habit We net just about every fish regardless of species. I thinks its a good habit to start and also protects your rods.

Finally got a chance to watch the video, enjoyed it as always. Those fish look like the perfect size to battle with the SUL. Too bad they are spawn and gone so fast. I can usually find Pre-spawn Gills in the week or two before the Full Moon. Do these Crackers get into a Pre-spawn mode and stage in certain areas before hitting the flats? Just curious.

Thanks for watching. I agree......I have been netting fish for a long time, since I started UL fishing and using light lines about 10 years back. Way before I even heard of JDM rods.

Thanks much. Yeah they can be found before, and after spawn usually around the areas they are using to spawn. They will usually be out in deeper water pre-spawn and post-spawn. You know last year I found plenty of shellcracker and redbreast during the spawn, and post spawn at Nickajack. What was odd I never found a single bluegill bed last spring there....I mean not one. I spent that whole time looking for bluegill beds at Nickajack that I did not fish other lakes until the spawn was over. By that time they had completed the spawn in other lakes that I would fish in the spring. As a matter of fact I have caught very few northern strain bluegill at all in Nickajack Lake. Going to be a tough call for me the next few weeks as to where to go. I sure don't want to miss the redbreast spawn down there....they may not be as big as the larger bluegill in my other lakes I fish but they sure have an attitude about them...much like a shellcracker.

Same here. I think the bass pros have prejudiced people against using nets.

Agree. Since a lot of kids learn to fish by watching TV, they do what the Pros do. B.A.S.S did away with the nets in their tournaments to make it harder to land the fish. No one explains on TV why they only boat lift or hand land their catch.
