    Default Cracker

Slayed em' this friday. Only caught one shellcracker this weekend but 300 good sized bluegills and a bucket full of crappie. Kept enough for a fry and let the rest go. Water temp was 68 and the males were peeing. Females were not swollen but just starting to develop. This is a great start this year for me....bring on the 1st spawn!

    :D :D :D :D

Is there aomething special about males peeing? Is it a sign of something? Close to spawn? None of the gills I have caught out of my sis in laws pond are peeing.

"peeing" ... or, more accurately, what "color" :p

If they're "peeing" clear liquid ... that's just "pee".
If they're "peeing" white liquid ... that's milt - and they're ready to fertilize the eggs, whenever the females get the eggs developed enough to drop.

    ...... cp

If the males are peeing and bright colored I use it as an indicator as to how close it is getting for nesting. Right or wrong. The males I have caught in fall and winter I have not witnessed peeing. Just something I have noticed and associate with this time of year.

I have never associated bream peeing with the spawn. That is great to know. I just thought they did it so you could squirt it on your wife. heh-heh-heh....
