Had another great day at Pickwick today and the fish got a little bigger. I caught well over 125 Gills....included in that were about a dozen juvenile shellcrackers and a few Gillcrackers.....a cross between a bluegill and a shell cracker. The color of choice today was Bison. Today I was able to finally come up with a great way to fish the Trout Magnet deep for Gills...and anything else really. I used a 1/4 ounce drop shot weight....I decided to try the ones Rickie sells...he sent me some when I bought the transducer arm. I had a #6 pan fish hook tied on with a palomar knot and the drop shot weight tied about 2 feet below. I have tried this many times with the Trout Magnet jig head but the orientation of the eye on the jig head is not designed for using as a drop shot hook.....I would get lots of hits but because the jig head was not sticking out parallel to the line I did not have a good rate for hook ups. Today I was catching Gills out of 27 feet of water on the bottom off of a sloping point. Cast out....count down to bottom then start slowly dragging it back to you...maintain contact with the bottom. You better hold on...LOL. Using the Major Craft Truzer 6' 5" UL rod it feels like a bolt of lightning when they hit. I left and the fish were still biting....hated to go but long drive back home. I will be using this method a lot this fall and early spring. This is a fun way to fish. If you haven't tried those Snake n da brush give them a try...I didn't get hung up once today. I have been playing around with this for a couple of years and now I think I have got it down....life is good!

Some guys are cutting my weights in half and singe-ing the cut ends closed for making even lighter drop shot weights ...

Man I love those weights, I don't know why but for me they work and work well. I had a friend ask to borrow a few poles to spider rig. When he brought my poles back, he wanted to know where I got those weights. He said my poles had outfished his by a lot. He said he even switched jigs and my poles still caught more.

I have been using these weights for several years now. I use them on my spider rigs and also like Rickie said I cut the 1/4 oz in halve and seal the end and run them like a drop shot. There is very little drag and very seldom hang up like the split shot does
IMO this is the best weight out there .
