I imagine one would need to position himself to avoid the small, but Dan,I bet I would work, but it's easier to buy them nowadays

Hey, it works. Why not stop and pick up a little road kill on the way to the fishin' hole and string it up to keep the fish close? I don't stop for skunks though.

.....no different lure selected than for any fish that bites lures.
I use the pictured design I came up with 99% of the time, on 6# test line and on light jigs 1/32-1/8 oz:

Thin, straight flutter tails IMO are far more versatile than curl tails and for me much easier to make than hair or feather jigs. There are some on Ebay similar but more costly and a bit different in design.

But to be fair, any thin straight flutter tail will work if rigged on a light jig using 6# test or lighter line; these include spike tails. (But then again, school fish aren't picky nor other fish minding their own business but not active!)

A few months ago I discovered a pond that see's little fishing pressure and the pan fish quality was amazing! First time I fished it - over 45 fish of different species including gills close to 9" and 12" perch - all on the pictured bait. The strikes were hard and the fish hooked themselves without much rod hook set. (Reel & raise the rod tip - hook set). Also did well on a decent size lake using the same after we found a few large schools.

(No - I don't sell them except to acquaintances that loved them or those that really want to use an alternative to the usual pan fish lures.)

A 1/64 Trout Magnet on 2# or 1# test line gets me all the Gills I could ever want.

Depends. If I'm getting small BGs for cat bait, I use small pieces of earthworm (crawlers too big) on a size 14 hook.
If they're for eating, a 1/64 or 1/80 feather jig that I tie, or a micro minnow from G-Daddy.

Lately it's been night crawlers on a 1/16 jig head for me, catch Brim, Bass, Crappie and catfish on that set-up
