I have been using this type of balanced bobber for the last ten years. The various size bobbers are balanced for the weight lures I use. The bobbers will up set with a up bite which about 25% of the bites are up bites. The bobbers can be changed in seconds if need be.
I balance the bobbers with lead wire or 60/40 solder. Two pieces of silicon fuel line are used to attach the bobbers to the line. Each bobber is marked for the weight of lure used.
The same rigging can be use with a slip bobber using live bait.
I have found over the years that when fishing lures the balanced fixed bobber will out produce a slip bobber rig. I believe this is due to the more natural drop and action of the lures. When using live bait there is little or no difference between the bite action.
I use a ten foot lite action spinning rod with 4 or 6 Lb. line. This make for easy casting with the bobber set to fish at 6 to 9 feet.

Am I understanding it right that the weight marked on the bobber is what the bobber weighs?

The weight marked on the bobber is the weight of lure the bobber is balanced
for. This way if you attach a heavier lure the bobber would sink or not up
set on a up bite. If the lure is to lite the bobber would remain horizontal
    after the lure sinks.

I also learned years ago less noise during presentation will avoid spooking larger gills too

Same as Baxter1 - I like the foam weighted cigar style from Comal Tackle.

I only clip them on the botton end (easier to see the light bites) Sometimes I will use a knot and bead to slip cork them.

They cast throught the wind with alot less frustation than smaller light bobbers.
Wishing you Blue Skies and Tight Lines
