Thread: Bed ?

Depends on the lake you're fishing. The shells may act like rocks in other lakes, too heavy to fan out. Beds on our HOA lake have shells in them too because there are just so dang many shells from the snales in the lake. Might not be old beds, but might be. If you were close enough to see the shells you were close enough to scare away the fish. Clear water bedding fish as spooked easily. I find the beds on one pass, go find others, then start fishing them in a circuit fashion.

We went swimming with the dogs yesterday evening and when I waded out about to about 4 feet deep I could feel bream beds everywhere we stepped. I reached down and grabbed a handful of mud. It was a mix of sand and mud and held it's shape pretty good when squeezed.

Like Kc said, it is probably something the couldn't
fan out so it just fell in the middle. Also bream will
re-use beds

Went back yesterday. We had 6 different sets of beds marked around the lake and all was empty, you think this cold front drove em off. Last Mon, water was 75 ,yesterday it was 66. We found a few just off the beds in deeper water but they were scattered. We did manage an 11in. Shell Cracker though, which is the biggest I have seen since a trip to the BigO.

The shells you see in the beds are fresh water muscles. The shell crackers eat the muscle and leave the shell. IMO that the crackers drop the shell inadvertently in there beds after eating the muscle. I see them quite often and when i do i no there are shellys close by. Try using the head of a night crawler and float it just off the bottom. Good Fishing!

The ones we caught on those beds were just regular bluegills , The shellcraker was caught off the beds in deeper water. Oh and it was caught on a beemoth, we tried everything that day, red worms crickets and beemoths, the crickets seemed to work best for the bluegill.
