Exactly, I almost always keep 6lb line on my setup (often switch back and forth from crappie to smallies) and make sure the drag is set so that large fish can just run with it....then I just have to take my time.
Last weekend I was fishing the Gauley River at a high 9.5 feet. Excited to fish the newly inundated bushes I jumped right outta the truck and threw a line out. As it hit the water, I had a huge strike that broke my line instantly....then realized I was in such a hurry I hadn't set my drag.
Love me some ugly stix....
