Thread: Do bluegills...

The smaller the better for bluegill. Sometimes if you miss a bunch of strikes, trim the end of some of the maribou. At times, I've used two jigs and caught doubles. No telling what else you'll catch besides bream, perch, bass, walleye, or crappie. I had a friend who caught a northern pike once, and it's mouth was full of crappie jigs

Same here. I don't use a float unless I'm fishing very shallow water.

I like the 1/64oz the best. But also use 1/32 and 1/80oz too. Since they are so small and don't cast too well, you need to fish them under a cork or troll them slowly. PM me your mailing adress and the next time I make some, I'll send you a few. I'm not in the jig business. Just make them for myself and buddies.

Almost all our gills this summer have been caught on 1/80 or 1/100 marabou jigs I tied. They do like different colors some and we tip with wax worms or worms sometimes if need be. My 5 yr. old daughter has caught tons of gills, a 2.5 lb bass, and a 20" catfish on small bluegill jigs this summer so you never know what you will get!

Sailor Jerry Hi, Try fly fishing for Blue Gill with a floating fly and I guarantee you'll catch all the Blue gill you want. If you haven't got a fly pole borrow one from a friend. You will have a blast. Even bass will hammer the heck out of them. Blue gii have a small mouth. Size 12 and smaller is the ticket.

Try a 1/64 or 1/80 under a waggler float and hold on. Chartreuse/black or Chartruese and Chartreuse is deadly on 'Gills.

I love to work on them with a fly rod but I'm going to try a small jig under a float for shallow water also

Try a black mini-spoon from Micro Spoons & Jigs - Home. They work real well on the gills and redears.
