The side/down transducer sets at same depth as 2d. You'll get better pics in deeper water. I keep my side scan set to about 50'. Yes, it's not going to show far at only 8'.

Wow these pictures are truly amazing in quality! I just got my structure scan installed on my new boat and have had it out twice but kind of disappointed in the clarity of pictures. Plus the lake we were fishing was maybe a max of 8 foot deep so I am assuming on the side scan feature with the lake only being 8 foot deep you wouldn't be able to scan very far out on the sides correct? Any tips or advice on system settings to help get er dialed in faster would be great! Also one more question, how much lower does the structure scan transducer need to be than the 2d transducer that came with my HDS 7 touch unit?

I'm with Reaper on that one...I read somewhere that while side scanning keep it X2 or X3 as your depth of water for better images....since i have cut it down i get better pics...but i am still learning and i'm gonna wreck my boat because i keep looking at what is on bottom all the time...lol
