Patti, that's been the plan for a long time to have a freezer stocked with enough crappie fillets to last year round. A friend of mine uses one of those vacu-sealers and he claims his crappie filets stay good for 3 years.

Officially moved in May the 1st even though I am a long ways from being finished inside or out, but I am in now. Makes it just a little harder to work around my stuff, but well worth it in my opinion.

I got to looking at the recipe for the banana pudding and it can be made with a stove, so I may whip me up a batch of it next week.

    Default Banana pudding

Stink - I made a batch Saturday and did not need a stove. We are still eating on it.:p Everyone that has had it loves the recipe, but JEEPERS it sure makes alot. You better get with Leland and Sissy and split a batch or you will turn yellow and want to hang from a tree:D

I am glad you have moved in. I know that is one h**l of a relief to get out of the other building. I am surprised that you still have your sanity. This Fall you will be as snug as a bug in a rug with the colors and a fire in your stove. It just does not get much better than that except for maybe a platter of crappie or catfish fillets. Be good, glad your in.

Great that you are finally in your lake cabin. That insulation will pay off in the long run and save you big bucks. If I were you, I would spend lots of time sitting on that porch and watching the trees and lake...nothing like it.

Shucks, I made a mistype there above, I meant to say you could make the pudding without a stove........

Yea George, when I make it, I will need help eating it, otherwise I will go into ketoacidosis......... hahahaha. I can't stop eating once I get started.

I'll hollar at Leland and Sissy and see if they want to help eat it when I make a batch.

Southern-Woman, I'm not sure if it was the all the rain we got last fall or what it is, but the trees have leafed out so thick that the lake is hidden from view. Just a dapple of water here and there through the forage.

I may be repeating myself, but I am putting a screened in area right in front of the patio doors that is only accessable from inside. In other words, no door in the screened in area, entry must be made from inside the house. The way I got it figured, if the flying pests want to pester me, they will have to find a way inside the cabin, then follow me out on the porch.

I love sitting out on the porch but you can't relax and enjoy yourself for the flying critters. This way I can.... I hope.

Long-range plans include having some of you guys over next year during our get-together. I've made no plans nor will I to start one going, but I bet we have one and if its in this area, then I hope a few of you can stop by for a visit.

We just ate a couple of crappie Po' Boys last night that were made from '06 fish packed in a food saver bag.

    It tasted like fresh caught.

For the record though, it really needs to be Food Saver brand. The bags are kinda high, but they are cheaper than crappie.

I just make sure to cover the crappie with water and push all the air out of the bag. This eliminates any contact with air and freezer burn cannot begin. They stay good for years.

I quit adding the water because it took up so much room in the freezer, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I found some '06 fish the a while back, and it had one corner that had broken off, There was just a little freezer burn on the edge of 2 pieces. We cut it off, fried it up and it was great.

There is no way I would try to keep fish in a zip Lock without water though.

    Stinkfinger and Cricket George,

Try the banana pudding recipe with "banana cream" instead of plain vanilla pudding. OMG is all I can say. I also made it with chocolate fudge pudding. I have got to stop making it! Made the chocolate for my daughter's birthday this week. How in the heck is she 26 years old?? Surely I am not that old!

    Congrats on the move in.
