Took an old friend fishing today- he is still trying to get the hang of feeling the invisible bite but the girls were cooperating and he got better as the day went on. I couldn't resist hitting the water on such a cloudy and wind friendly day. On the water at 7 and quit at 5. Caught fish from 8-14 fow mostly off the bottom . Nothing but minnows for me right now. I have no pride whatsoever. We caught 220 crappie ( as Ledge knows I have a clicker and am not afraid to use it) and kept the 25 heaviest in our estimation. Top 7 weighed 8.23 lbs. and the big girl was a boy- a 15" male @ 1.78 lbs. Miss Beazley made the trip and will sleep well tonight.

C2_ will you stay with a pile as long as they bite even if it's mostly short ones or do you move on after a few shorts looking for bigger fish? I'm a move on kinda guy. About 5 shorts in a row and I'm gone.

If I catch 5 shorts really quickly then I will probably give a pile a 5 minute warning. If I don't catch a good fish in that 5 minutes I'm gone. This lake has way too much brush in it to hang around waiting for Big Bertha to come around- right?

Ok Redge "take notes" .......... you stop and catch 5 shorts FIRST .......... before you drive to the next pile.

If I had my boat and could pre fish how I wanted it would be a for sure deal, with dove and deer season around the corner it is definitely unlikely. Next year is a different story

Nice catch!! I've yet to get into a nice school of them. I'm still learning how to catch them but my first task is to find a good producing brush pile. Been marking all I find with my GPS.

Ciller you are killing me with you unbelievable 220 crappie in one trip. I could not catch that many if used a fish net. The Great grandson and I fished Oologah Monday from 9 till 3 we found about 20 sand bass not 1 crappie, were long line trolling with crappie lures. I hate sand bass as when landing one in comes 3 or 4 lines tied in one big knot.

I thank my problem is not knowing what I'm looking at on my fish finder. Got to learn how to find brush piles.

Check out some of the videos on You Tube.
    Here's one:

I also down loaded into my Fish Finder the GPS Coordinates for the brush piles the Corps of Engineers have on their web site. I have found that some of the piles have disappeared or moved. I came to this conclusion after driving all over the coordinates.

I'm going to try Blue Creek next. I need as many spots as I can find to improve my chances of finding the Crappie.
