Tadertot, my favorite rod is a 8 ft Huckabee rod and I like to fish with florescent yellow line. Bonehead line is the best I've found. It has very little memory and is very strong too. Huckabee quit making the 8 ft rods but he has 9 and 10 footers that are really nice. You have to go on-line to get the Bonehead line, yellow and orange both work really good. I hardly ever fish with line any smaller than 8 or 10lb test. I don't like breaking off every time I get hung up. The crappie could care less too unless your fishing in a really clear lake like Broken bow or Tenkiller. Bonehead has some great rods too. Don't have one yet but it's on my wish list. You can catch fish on just about any spot on the lake. Just find brush in 20 to 35 FOW and drop a jig in it. Try different depths up from bottom, watch your locator you'll see what depth the fish are at and try that depth first. Like all the guys say, don't beg them to bite. If you don't catch anything in 15 minutes move to a different brush pile. It's a little tougher to catch em during the winter time, but for the most part I think it's because most of us don't like to fish over 20 ft deep. Lots of guys kill em during the winter searching for shad balls with crappie feeding on them.

I was fortunate enough to take WSD and his bride yesterday. I was able to find 29 fish for Stephanie. She is passionate about cat hunting. I was not able to find any big fish for her. It was an honor to be able to take a celebrity and his bride. WSD was not able to get off the boat without one little movie! Look at all the crappie lives I was able to save! I hope they had half as good of time as I did!

Ledge I would love some tips and tricks and general info from you on catching the slimers sometime. I know the lakes I fish are full of them and I've caught some nice ones but most of the time by accident while fishing for crappie. I'd kinda like to know how to catch them consistently though.

I have been following the thread periodically. I live near claremore and have a totally legit fish and ski boat but don't have a truck is that very reliable. I have some quality rods and bait to along with some good fishing experience. I am looking to connect with some people who fish the oolagah and claremore area, namely spencer creek. All I fish for is crappie.

Welcome and that's a good start only fishing for Crappie. Oologah crrently has plenty of them but the size has been lacking. My guess is from a abd spawn sometime back. There may just be someone who does not have a boat, but has a decent truck that will get in touch with you. Good luck!

Just got all my rods rigged up with some new power pro braid. I am looking for someone who is interested in doing some crappie fishing. It would be cool if there was someone here who liked fishing the verdigris river channel or had a couple of spots on claremore lake. Oolagah would be okay too. I am looking to get rid of this cabin fever and get back out there.

    Default First Solid Whang.......

Size: 86.1 KBTook my poor abused boat to "Boatless Reapers Repairs" yesterday and he got it running and we were on the water before noon. First drop- bam!- and put this 13" in the box. That seemed to spook every fish in the lake cause it got real slow after that but it was good to finally spend some time with Captain Craig and experience at least one solid whang!

CC2, it's always to get that first whang-especially after you've been away for so long! Congrats to you and Capt Craig!
