I do tie my own. Marabou or hackle. one does not seem to do better. My tail is so thin, about half the density and length you buy, that i dont know that it matters. ??? the entire jig is 1/16 oz but will fit inside a quarter.

Ledge, do you tie your jigs? Do the hair seem to work better than marabou? I have always preferred jigs not plastic when the water get 45F or less.

CC good to hear your are doing well!! Woke up to 5 degrees Brrrrr! I am jealous of your warm weather!
RDJJ at some point during the winter I usually have better luck on hair jigs, not so far this year. Plastics still working the best for me. I do try the hair every trip.
Ledge if you have time, post up a pic of the jig your are using, or that may be top secret!!
Ledge, thanks
I have just started tying some, I seem to be having better luck also with a real short shank 1/16 oz (7/8" total jig) and 1/8 oz (1") but I have been using hair so it has more density. I may try to thin it down and see if I can tell any difference between quantity or quality. Are you using any flash?
redge, its the jig i sent you. pink head, white body, pink marabou tail. I use flash periodically. can not see that it makes any difference. when i do, i use silver. looks better though.
Thanks Ledge, I thought that might be the one. However I had seen you mention the red and black and was just wondering.
The old thread was moved to the archives above. You can look at it there. Post new reports here.

Common sense isn't always that common!
Suppose to be 67 today with high winds not gonna get the boat out but wanting to hit some banks what will the fish be doing with 2 days of warming and sun. Any suggestions would be great
Went Saturday only caught 10 with 4 big enough to keep. Water temp was 32.8 with quite a few coves and banks froze over. Threw a rock in the size of a softball, it didnt break through, ice was an inch thick. South end had less ice, I'd try there.
Hey Whisperer! Two of my sons are planning to fish north of Winganon on Wednesday, putting in at Eastside. Is that ramp likely to be iced in you think?
