EB would be a better authority on that question than I. This DS is 6 months new to me, so i am continually learning what it is telling me. This was what i was dropping in on. The biting fish would be a little more concentrated. This had biting crappie in it. When they are in thick, it will tighten up a little. I have not got my eye converted from the 113hd screen, so i still verify on sonar. But you will be looking for the bigger snow flakes. tiny ones are shad. this picture is 96% shad. When sonar goes blue and yellow, get something down there and hold on! I like to watch my jig on the locator to see just where i am in relation to the fish. Just bump the tops of there heads. EB will be the Authority!

Thanks Ledge. I only have DS so I need to be able to interpret without sonar and then I suppose drop a jig for verification! Maybe just one more question. Does this phenomenon always fill the screen or do you sometimes fish the small bait balls? OK one more. Do you throw a buoy on them or just try to follow with the TM and keep them in "sight" as they move? Last question I promise. Does the ball move around a lot or is it fairly stationary for several minutes. Yeah, I'm a newb. How could you tell?

FYI, I was teaching some clients how to throw the net for bait saturday morning and caught two sizes of crappie. A ton of small 4inchers were hanging with the schools of gizzards and some hog females were feasting. I caught 10 crappie in the 2lb range in 22ft of water not relating to structure. Sure is tough to through those back! My clients were begging me not to turn the crappie loose. The blue cat bite has been good for those that venture to the slimy side.

once again, it is hard for me to see my jig on DS. and on the front, iam just looking at sonar. This concentration is generally seen for 10-20 yds as way of the boat. so a fairly big area. when it gets tuff, yes i am just fishing a ball of bait maybe 10' around. generaly not this time of year. I do like to throw a marker for a referance. but they will move. so maybe by the time i have lost them, i will be picking up 4-5 bouys. generally, they will stay in one spot 20-30mins. then you have to go find them again with the tm. but stay on the ledge or break and you will find them. they dont generally go far.
what pattern do you see EB, mark, odie?

Doug is the ledge fishin king on Oologah, him and Brian have got it down to a fine art. They could tell you more about it than I can. Can't seem to quit fishin the brush piles myself, but I am smart enough to know them boys are fishin the right pattern for this time of year.

Ledge. That run of Q and A was really helpful to me at least theoretically! Who knows if I will ever be able to pull it off. I have learned that you guys make it look easy then I get out there and it is a mess for me! Thank you very much for taking the time away from fishing to help the learners.

Made it out on Friday, fished from 8 to 1 before the rain came in. It was a good day overall, ended up keepi g 8 good fish. I let alot of dinks go. Fish were caught in or close to brush at 16 to 20 ft deep. Water was around 47 degrees. Wind really limited where i could fish. The big one in the pic weighed 1lb 11 oz. I had 2 more about that size get off at the boat. All caught on jigs. Best bait today was the lake fork tackle shad in pink/chart. Had to try several piles before i found a productive one.

I think it was a wise call cancelling the tournament. I love fishing Oologah, but hate that the wind makes it so tough. It is my opinion that although Oologah is a big lake, it actually fishes small. It doesn't have many long creeks with steep banks that you can hide in.

Wind today doesn't seem as bad as predicted. Would have been a decent day for the tourney, but better safe than sorry! I'm going to test the waters tomorrow with winds forecast to be lighter.

That's a couple of nice fish there Schifendecker!
