Didn't kill em this weekend, but caught enough for a couple of suppers. Fished by myself Saturday, brought home 10 and called it a day before it got too hot. It was raining when I got up on Sunday, so my son and I waited for it to blow through and got on the water around 9:30. We caught another 10 and added those to the ice chest with Saturdays catch. Saw Reaper and his daughter on the water and it was a pleasure meeting Dinobot for the first time too. Weather was nice, seemed weird not to be baking in the 100's like we have been. Caught all of our fish on jigs tipped with minnows. We caught em casting and jigging brush piles in 12 to 18 FOW. My grand daughter Kam helped me take a few pictures and fillet the crappie. Won't be long and she'll be my favorite fishin partner.

Felicia and I only had 2 worth keeping, gave them to Bobby who was out too. He helped with the brushpile drop. For the most part, Talala Creek has been very slow. There's only been one spot that produced any fish and it's been spotty. Back to work for me but hope to get out again next weekend. Good to see Dinobot, Bobby and Kevin and son out and about. good fishin all.

Wound up with 17 worth cleaning. All on minnows. It was nice to meet Whisperer, Hunter, and Bobby. A big thanks to Reaper for showing me a few spots to fish and thanks to Whisperer for letting me fish his spot for a few hours .

Went this morning and it sure was nice and cool. Fished with my buddy Jason and brought home 18 keepers. It was kinda slow early, but the bite got better around 9:00. Caught all our fish on jigs, or jigs tipped with minnows. Used Bobby Garland baby shads and slab slayers in 4 different colors, orange and chartreuse, gumdrop, licorice and pearltreuse, and black. Changing colors when the bite slowed down seemed to help us catch more fish. Caught two 14 inch fish and another 4 or 5 between 12 and 13 inches. Fished brush piles in 10 to 18 FOW.

Really hot big crappie bite.

Seems like the best bite was between 9 and 11. This time of year the bite normally gets tough after 12 or 1. I hook the minnow through lips when fishing a jig and minnow. I also add a crappie nibble to the jig and minnow. I pitch or cast the jig and finesse it through the brush pile. Vertical jigging works too, but you can cover more of the pile casting. August is a tough month to fish, but during the summer months the crappie are more predictable. Crappie love shade and brush piles provide that for them. One method is to find a brush pile that normally holds fish and patiently fish it. Eventually they'll ring the dinner bell and there should be several hours of good fishing.

That's my problem--I forgot to bring my dinner bell for them to ring--duh! I'll remember that next time. jk jk)

Fished from 7 to 1pm today and managed 5 keepers up to 12". The baby catfish were everywhere we fished, from 8' to the bottom. The crappie bite was best from 9 to noon but never very good for us obviously. One of those no thump days where you kind of used your Jedi senses and then lift up and feel the weight of the fish. We all experience that type of hit from time to time. Surely someone has given it a name. Let me know.
